Pay the correct account early
Search your bank’s bill-payee list for Abbotsford Tax or a similar tax-specific name. Use the 10-digit folio on the tax notice. The city has a separate utility payee, so selecting the first Abbotsford result can send the money to the wrong service.
Allow at least three business days for online or bank payments to reach the city. Bank cutoff times can shift processing to the next business day. For mail, the money must be received by the due date; the postmark does not count as payment.
In-person, card and cheque routes
Online credit-card tax payments have a 1.75% service fee. City Hall does not accept credit cards for in-person property-tax payments. Its cashiers accept cash, cheques, bank drafts and debit, weekdays 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Confirm your debit limit before the visit.
Cheque drop boxes at both City Hall entrances are available 24 hours. Make cheques payable to the City of Abbotsford; postdating to the due date is allowed. Returned or dishonoured payments have a $25 administration charge.
Mortgage payments and the grant are separate
If a mortgage provider collects property taxes, verify that the funds will be sent on time. The city says it is not responsible for mortgage-provider errors. Tell the provider whether you are claiming the basic or additional Home Owner Grant.
The grant application is through the Province ofBC, not a bank branch. Where eligible, both the payment and the grant must be submitted by the tax due date. Paying the bank amount alone does not submit the grant. Contact Property Taxes and Utilities at 604-864-5522.
