Current status and eligible properties
The city’s current notice says all available 2026 trees have been accounted for. Earlier application-opening text remains on the page, but it does not mean new requests are still being accepted. Existing applicants are to be notified of the decision and next steps.
Eligibility prioritizes the two named low-canopy neighbourhoods. Properties must be residential, not undergoing development, and have enough space for the mature trees. The program seeks a net increase in canopy, so its trees cannot satisfy a tree-permit replacement obligation.
All eight tree choices in the city list
The listed species are Pacific Vine Maple, Deodar Cedar, Chinese Dogwood, Autumn Gold Maidenhair Tree, Daybreak Magnolia, Persian Ironwood, Garry Oak and Bald Cypress. The full source list is kept in the comparison table.
Choose for mature size, sun and ground conditions rather than only the nursery size. City guidance gives minimum spacing of 3 m from structures,2 m from driveways and sidewalks, and 1 m from utilities, retaining walls and property lines.
Delivery and planting support
The planting partner delivers to the household and advises of the date at least two weeks ahead. Be home so the partner can review the planting location, help plant and explain aftercare.
If no one is home, trees can be left but planting help cannot be provided. Preferred species are not guaranteed because supply is limited. Questions go to Parks Planning Urban Forestry at 604-853-2281.
