Prepare the accepted glass

The grey bin accepts glass packaging such as bottles and jars. Rinse them, remove lids and put the lids in the blue cart. Labels can stay on. Refundable beverage bottles can go to a depot for the refund, or into the grey bin if you choose to give up the deposit.

Do not put broken glass, light bulbs, dishes, cookware, ceramics, mirrors, windows or drinking glasses in the bin. The city’s broken-glass instruction is to secure it in a plastic bag and put it in the black garbage cart.

Set out safely on the correct day

Glass is manually collected every two weeks on the recycling day. Place the bin beside the carts with 1 m clearance. Do not put it on top of a cart or hide it behind containers or other objects.

The bin need not be full. Do not overfill it; extra glass can wait until the next collection or go to an accepting depot. The source contains 2025 rollout dates, so this guide uses the ongoing collection rule rather than describing rollout as new.

Missing bins and service charges

Bin deliveries are complete. Report a missing, damaged or lost container to 604-864-5640 option 1 or waste@abbotsford.ca. A second container can be requested under the stated program; confirm current availability with staff.

Glass service is included in the solid-waste utility charge. The city does not offer an opt-out discount for households that rarely place the glass bin out. Keep blue-cart recycling glass-free to reduce contamination and handling hazards.
